Does robots.txt prevent pages from being indexed?

No — it only prevents crawling. A blocked URL can still appear in search results if other pages link to it. Use noindex meta tags to prevent indexing.

Where should I upload robots.txt?

Place it at the root of your domain: https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt. It must be accessible without authentication.
